Firefighter/EMT

The City of Ships is accepting applications for a full-time Firefighter/EMT. Bath is a small, family-friendly city that has been recognized as one of the best small cities in America and as a distinctive destination by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Lateral transfer pay and vacation accumulation are available for candidates with up to 10 years of current career Fire/EMS service experience.

Pay and Benefits

  • Basic EMT: $27.80 per hour
  • Advanced EMT: $28.36 per hour
  • Paramedic: $31.34 per hour

This position includes a generous benefits package with paid time off, health insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, and participation in the Maine State Retirement Program 3C (2/3 at 25 years). The Bath Fire & Rescue Department also provides an allowance for professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid Maine Basic EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic license by the job start date
  • Firefighter I and II certification

Exceptions:

  • Applicants licensed as a Paramedic without Firefighter I and II certification are eligible for hire, but must obtain Firefighter I and II certification within two years of the hire date.
  • Applicants with a Maine Basic EMT license are eligible for hire, but must obtain Advanced EMT licensure within two years of the hire date.

A copy of your valid driver’s license, Maine EMS license, and Firefighter I and II certifications must be included with your application materials.

Hiring Process

Leading candidates will be required to successfully complete an in-depth background check and pre-employment medical examinations.

All candidates must complete the Bath Fire & Rescue Department physical agility test. A CPAT will not be accepted. Candidates who pass the physical agility test will move on to a written test. The written test is waived for candidates who hold a current Maine Advanced EMT or Paramedic license.

The physical agility test and written exam will be scheduled. A study guide may be obtained from the City Clerk.

  • Signed physical agility test liability release
  • Signed statement of physician form
  • Signed background check authorization form
  • Copy of valid driver’s license
  • Copy of Maine EMS licensure
  • Documentation of all applicable certifications and training
