General Assistance
NOTICE
The City of Bath administers a General Assistance Program for people in need. Pursuant to Title 22 MRS-Section 4305 the municipal officers have adopted an ordinance establishing that program. You can view the City of Bath's General Assistance Ordinance(PDF, 794KB) or in person, 3rd Floor, 55 Front Street.
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may call 207-443-8335, email gabath@cityofbathmaine.govmaine.gov, or come in to schedule an appointment during regular business hours: Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30am-4pm. Individuals may obtain a GA application: Monday through Thursday, 7:30am-5pm. (Excluding national and state holidays).

If this is an emergency outside of City Hall office hours, please call the Bath Police department at (207) 443-5563.
The municipality’s General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application.
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services is available to answer any questions you may have. Call their toll-free number at 1-800-442-6003. This telephone is answered Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
