The Bath Fire & Rescue Department is dedicated to ensuring that the residents of Bath receive the highest quality emergency services. Our mission is to protect lives, property, and environmental resources by responding to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and natural disasters, as well as assisting local agencies when needed.

We are committed to providing advanced emergency medical services up to the paramedic level, fire suppression, and hazardous materials operations while also prioritizing community safety through education and prevention programs. To achieve this, we support our personnel in obtaining the highest levels of training and education, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve effectively.

The department operates 24/7 with 24 full-time firefighters, Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, and the Executive Assistant to the Chief.

The department  offers complimentary Fire Safety plan review on new developments, Fall Prevention, Youth Fire-Setting Prevention and Intervention, as well as courtesy Chimney/Woodstove inspections for residents and businesses. To schedule an inspection or get more information about education opportunities, please call 207-443-5034.

The Bath Fire Department offers public education programming, including:

  • Fire Safety and Fall Prevention- a NFPA certified program for elderly that has been taught for several groups, including Bath Housing and the Plant Memorial Home.

  • Learn Not to Burn - a NFPA certified program focusing on fire safety in the home. The program is taught annually to first grade students at Dike-Newell Elementary School.

  • Youth Fire-setting Prevention and Intervention Program- The goal of the program is to identify youth that display or talk about fire-setting tendencies. These behaviors can be as simple as playing with matches or talking about curiosity of fire or more severe behaviors like arson. There is a simple screening process, including interview, to help determine, with parent/guardian approval, the appropriate intervention based on the level of risk. For more information, call 207-443-5034.

  • Firefighters Are Our Friends- The goal is to help preschool-aged children become familiar with what firefighters look like in full gear, so they won’t be frightened if we ever need to enter their home during an emergency. We also incorporate basic fire safety lessons and provide a tour of our trucks and equipment.

  • Fire Safety/Career Exploration- This program is designed for high school students to provide insight into the fire service for those interested in pursuing it as a career. It also serves as an important reminder for students who may soon be living independently to recognize fire safety hazards and understand the safest ways to respond in an emergency.
