Assistant City Clerk

Ongoing Applications

The City of Bath is seeking an Assistant City Clerk to join our City Clerk's Office.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people, staying organized, and doing work that makes a difference every day. As a member of a small, busy office, you'll provide a wide range of services to Bath residents—from issuing licenses and providing vital records to assisting voters and supporting residents through the General Assistance process. No two days are exactly alike, and that's part of what makes this position rewarding.

The Assistant City Clerk plays an important role in keeping the office organized while also serving as a welcoming and knowledgeable resource for the public. We're looking for someone who is friendly, dependable, organized, and comfortable working with a wide variety of people and situations.

The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple tasks, pay close attention to detail, and handle sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment. Strong customer service and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to remain patient, professional, and helpful.

You don't need to know everything about municipal government when you walk through the door. We're looking for someone with a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and the ability to become a trusted resource for both residents and coworkers.

A high school diploma or GED is required. An associate degree in business, social work, public administration, or a related field and two years of related experience are desirable, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate must have a valid Maine driver's license, be bondable, and have a Maine Notary Public certification, or obtain certification within three months of hire.

The City of Bath offers the opportunity to do meaningful work in a collaborative environment where employees support one another and take pride in serving their community.

This full-time, non-exempt position offers a starting hourly range of $22.11-$28.75 depending on qualifications and experience. The City of Bath offers generous paid leave, participation in the Maine Public Employees Retirement System, and excellent health and wellness benefits.
