The City of Bath does not rest on its laurels. The Director of Planning will join a strong team that is implementing a new zoning code, climate action plan, and award-winning comprehensive plan; advising on major investment and redevelopment projects; and introducing innovative policies to our historic Maine riverfront community. As a key member of the City’s leadership team, you’ll turn the 30,000-foot view into real-world results, guiding zoning updates, development reviews, infrastructure planning and community-driven policy that shape how Bath grows into the future.

The qualified candidate will bring 5+ years of related municipal planning experience and step in as the leader colleagues and the community turn to for answers. They bring a solid foundation in planning principles and the proven ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities without missing a beat. Strong facilitation and communication skills are essential. This person can run a room, build consensus, and make sure every voice is heard along the way. They're a solutions-based collaborator who works seamlessly across departments and with community partners, balancing competing priorities without losing sight of the bigger picture.
This full-time, exempt position has a starting salary range of $76,336 – $87,776, depending on experience. The City of Bath offers generous paid leave, participation in the Maine Public Employee Retirement System, and excellent health and wellness benefits.
