The City Arborist manages and cares for Bath’s public trees and urban forest, helping maintain the health, safety, and appearance of trees throughout city streets, parks, and public spaces. The position oversees tree planting, pruning, maintenance, and removal, and operates specialized forestry tools and equipment to perform this work. Responsibilities include road clearance trimming, responding to storm damage and emergency calls, and maintaining flower beds and landscaped areas on public grounds. The Arborist also inspects and maintains forestry equipment, purchases supplies, and assists with preparing specifications for vehicles and equipment used by the division.

In addition to field work, the City Arborist coordinates forestry activities performed by staff and contractors, reviews landscaping and site development plans submitted by private developers, and helps ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The position maintains records, assists with forestry budgets, and serves as a public contact for questions or concerns related to tree planting, removal, and maintenance. Working closely with other City departments, schools, and community partners, the Arborist helps support Bath’s parks, open spaces, and tree canopy while promoting safe practices and strong public service.
