CSO Separation Project
Combined Sewer Overflow Separation Projects
The City of Bath will be conducting sewer main upgrades on Harward Street as part of the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Separation Project. The Harward drainage area, the largest part of the Bath sewage system, consistently sees overflow problems in times when heavy rainfall outpaces the Water Pollution Control Facility's ability to pump out and treat the storm water and sewage .
WHAT IS THE CSO SEPARATION PROJECT?
The CSO Separation Project aims to improve Bath's aging sewer infrastructure by separating combined sewer lines (carrying both wastewater and storm water) to reduce the risk of overflow during heavy rain, ensuring cleaner water and safer storm water management. The image on the left represents our current sewer system (Combined) and the image on the right is what we will have once this project is completed. As you can see this separates our sewage from our storm water which will eliminate contaminated overflow during heavy storms
WHAT TO EXPECT:
During this period, you may notice some of the following:
- Excavation Work: Crews may dig in specific areas of the right-of-way or property to install new pipes and manage sewer separation.
- Construction Equipment: There will be heavy machinery and personnel working in the area. Please use caution and stay clear of work zones for safety.
