Trash & Recycling

    • The City of Bath is now partnering with GarbageToGarden for our trash and recycling services, beginning July 1, 2025.
    • Garbage to Garden (GTG) began with an idea to make municipal-scale composting easy, clean, and accessible to all. Today, GTG has become New England’s leader in curbside composting, with vertically-integrated hauling and composting operations in two states, serving approximately 40 thousand households. Founded in 2012, Garbage to Garden has grown at a rapid pace for the past 13 years, winning many state, local and national awards, adding services, and growing geographically. Garbage to Garden is known for innovative solutions to waste management, high quality compost for organic gardens, and uncompromising reliability backed up with outstanding customer service. In addition to composting services, Garbage to Garden offers comprehensive waste management for municipalities, businesses, schools, and nonprofit organizations that includes collection of trash and recyclables, as well as zero-waste event services for events with 50-50,000 attendees.

Trash Collection Schedule

For 2025 closures or special pick-up dates click here
The City pays for the collection of trash from one to six units only. Apartments, businesses, bed & breakfasts, and homes with more than six units must arrange for private trash service.
Residents of Bath have their trash and recycling collected on the same day of the week according to the following schedule:

Monday:
All streets south of Route 1

Tuesday: All streets from Route 1 to the south of North Street

Wednesday: All streets north of North Street, west of High Street, and North Bath

Thursday: All streets north of North Street and east of High Street

Place trash and recycling at your curb no later than 7:00 AM the day of your collection and no earlier than 6:00 PM the night before. Trash or recycling that has been disturbed by wind or animals is considered litter. It will not be picked up by the contractor and is the responsibility of the occupant.

Additional Rules

  • Bath City Ordinance prohibits residents from bringing their household trash directly to the Landfill.
  • Trash must be in official, blue City of Bath Pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) bags or it will not be collected.
  • You may place other bags into your PAYT bags.
  • You may place PAYT bags inside trash cans.
  • PAYT bags are available at several Bath retailers.
Up to 4 bags will be collected per week.

Requirements for trash containers:
  • Must be kept clean & securely covered
  • Must be placed out of the way of City snowplows
  • Must be placed in a location convenient to the collection contractor
  • Must be rodent proof, animal proof, leak proof, and essentially airtight
  • Individual containers must be no more than 32 gallons in capacity
  • Containers must weigh less than 60 pounds
  • Individual items must be less than 4 feet in all dimensions

For recycling containers:
  • Must be placed in a blue bin or other sturdy container
  • Must be placed out of the way of City snowplows
  • Must be placed in a location convenient to the collection contractor
  • Individual containers must be no more than 32 gallons in capacity and clearly labeled "RECYCLING."

All recycling must be loose inside the container; do not put any recyclables in bags. Please check the Recycling Page for more information.
