City of Bath Social Media Policy

Purpose

The City of Bath uses social media to share information about city services, programs, events, and initiatives. We encourage open and respectful dialogue and aim to create a welcoming online environment for all users. This policy ensures that our social media platforms serve as a useful and informative resource for the community while respecting First Amendment protections.

Guidelines for Users

We welcome and encourage comments, questions, and concerns. To maintain a respectful and constructive environment, users are asked to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Be Respectful: Avoid language or images that are obscene, profane, or defamatory.
  • Stay on Topic: Comments should relate to the post’s topic or the city’s programs and services.
  • Protect Privacy: Do not post personal information (e.g., phone numbers, addresses) about yourself or others.

While we recognize the right to free speech, the City of Bath reserves the right to remove content in accordance with applicable laws and this policy. The following types of content may be removed:

  • Speech that promotes violence, threats, or illegal activities.
  • Discriminatory language or hate speech targeting individuals or groups based on race, gender, religion, disability, or other protected status.
  • False information that could cause public harm (e.g., false reports of emergencies).
  • Commercial promotions, spam, or solicitation unrelated to City of Bath business.

Moderation

City of Bath social media accounts are moderated during regular business hours. Comments and messages will be reviewed as time allows. Posts violating these guidelines may be removed without warning, and repeat offenders may be temporarily or permanently banned.
